Grubs a Major problem

• Rose Chafers;European Chafers;Asiatic Garden Beetle;Japanese Beetles: Biological control uses the nematode
Heterorhabditis megidis. This penetrates the grubs and gives them a fatal bacterial infection. It should be applied in summer when the soil is moist and the soil temperature is between 12°C and 20°C, ideally in July or August when the larvae are nearest to the surface. Metarhizium anisopliae, appears to be quite effective against white grubs in the soil. Azadirachtin, a derivative of the neem tree, is a growth regulator which appears to interfere with a part of the molting process in which an insect develops new chitin for the exoskeleton ("outer shell"). Insects which have been exposed to azadirachtin exhibit some peculiar shapes, such as half larva and half pupa or half pupa and half adult. The end result is the same--healthy adults do not emerge. So Azadirachtin formulation that we have; can be applied to turfs at the time of irrigation.
